As a parent, you want the best for your kids. That includes making sure that your home is free of products that might harm your children. For me, I was especially concerned about the cleaning products I was using. I just didn’t want the harsh chemicals in these products to have any negative effects for my children.
So, I started investigating natural alternatives to the chemical cleaning products that I was using. I quickly discovered that lemon essential oil was going to be the perfect replacement for my most of my cleaning products. Here’s why:
Lemon essential oil is antiseptic, anti fungal, and antiviral, plus, it has a fresh, clean scent that is so invigorating.
Here’s how I use lemon essential oil as an all purpose cleaner:
I like to fill a spray bottle with water and then simply add 2 tablespoons of castile soap and 10-20 drops of lemon essential oil. If you don’t have any castile soap, you can add 1 part water and 1 part vinegar as your base – and then add your 10-20 drops of lemon essential oil. Both recipes are great all-purpose cleaners.
Oh, and one other tip – Try adding a few drops of lemon essential oil to freshen up your next load of laundry with a great citrus smell.

I’ve read that lemon or citrus oils will break down plastic. Is this recipe diluted enough to prevent that?
Glass vinegar bottles fit standard sprayers.
No, it isn’t. It must be PET plastic or glass. You MUST use castile soap in the mix, or something that will disperse the essential oils. Simply adding oils to water will not do that. 10-12 drops per ounce of water is a good ratio for cleaning.

We use up cleaners quite quickly so I do not believe it is a concern. Citrus oils can break down plastic however, so if the thought bothers you I would suggest finding a glass alternative.
Oils break down plastic period. Even if you use the cleaners quickly, you are spraying toxic things into the air. It will start breaking down the plastic right away, so there will always be something toxic you are using. It’s best to use glass.
Where can I buy castille soap? I would also like to know about carrier oils. What are good oils and can you let me know where to buy them?

Google Dr. Bonners, they have excellent castile soap. I love their unscented and peppermint.
A health food or whole foods should have both. I have also ordered both from Amazon, Doterra is another option to check
